CSCOR-Supported Toxic Algae Research Cruise Provides Learning Opportunity for Two California Teachers in the Pacific Northwest
As part of the Teachers-at-Sea (TAS) Program, two high school science teachers from California have been selected to join a research cruise, jointly sponsored by the Center for Sponsored Coastal Ocean Research (CSCOR) and the National Science Foundation (NSF). The cruise will examine the environmental (biological and chemical) factors responsible for initiating and sustaining blooms of toxic phytoplankton off the Pacific Northwest coast. In addition to assisting the scientists on the cruise, the teachers will be responsible for maintaining a web-based scientific journal of their activities at sea. Here they will be posting discoveries and new events as they happen on the research cruise.
