Biographical Sketch:

John Hamill became the Chief of GCMRC in November 2005. Prior to that time, he served as the Department of the Interior's Executive Coordinator of the California Desert Management Project from 1999-2005 where he co-chaired the Desert Managers Group--an interagency partnership among the Department of the Interior, the Department of Defense, the State of California, U. S. Forest Service and county governments that is working to more effectively and efficiently manage the California deserts natural and cultural resources (see www.dmg.gov). From January 1997 until December 1998, Mr. Hamill was the U. S Fish and Wildlife Service's Associate Manager for Colorado, where he supervised field operations in Colorado, including four National Wildlife Refuges, the Colorado Ecological Services Field Office, two National Fish Hatcheries, and two Fish and Wildlife Management Assistant Offices.

From June 1985 until November 1998, Mr. Hamill was the Director of the Recovery Program for Endangered Fish Species in the Upper Colorado River Basin for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The Recovery Program is a multi-agency, multi state effort aimed at recovering the endangered Colorado River fishes while allowing water development to continue in compliance with the Endangered Species Act.

Mr. Hamill has a Master of Science degree in Wildlife Management from Virginia Tech and Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resource Management from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
