Hypoxia Workshop Fosters Collaboration between Diverse Scientific Disciplines

Gulf of Mexico Dead Zone

Improving management of hypoxic and contaminant effects on living resources in the Gulf of Mexico was the theme of a September, 2006 workshop held at Tulane University in New Orleans. Participants included Center for Sponsored Coastal Ocean Research-sponsored scientists from the Aquatic Research Consortium, Long-Term Estuary Assessment Group, Oceans and Human Health Initiative, Northern Gulf of Mexico Ecosystems and Hypoxia Assessment, and the Coastal Hypoxia Research Program. These programs are conducting research on this topic independently, and the workshop served as a forum for sharing research findings and methodology, exchanging ideas, and establishing collaborations.
