Danny
M. Gable of Iowa City, Iowa Mr. Gable is currently
Assistant to the Director of Athletics at the University
of Iowa after stepping down as head wrestling coach
in 1997 after 21 years in that position. During his
tenure as head coach, Mr. Gable became known as the
University of Iowa's "all-time winningest wrestling
coach," with a career record of 355-21-5, all at
Iowa. A former Gold medal winner himself in wrestling
(1972 Summer Olympics Munich, Germany), Mr. Gable
was head coach for the 1980, 1984 and 2000 Olympic wrestling
teams and assistant freestyle coach for the 1976 and
1988 Olympics. In 1980, he was named to the U.S.A. Wrestling
Hall of Fame and in 1985 was inducted into the U.S.
Olympic Hall of Fame. In addition to his coaching duties,
Mr. Gable also aids the University of Iowa in their
fund-raising efforts and promotes the sport of wrestling
world-wide. Mr. Gable holds a B.S. in Biology and Physical
Education from Iowa State University.
