Guangzhou Toyota to Set Up Second Production Line in China for Camry
17 June 2008
Guangzhou Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. (GTMC), a 50:50 joint manufacturing company of Toyota Motor and Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd., will establish a second production line at its plant in Nansha District, Guangdong, China.
The new line—to manufacture the Camry—is scheduled to start production in mid-2009 and will have an annual production capacity of 120,000 vehicles, which is scheduled to increase to 200,000 in the future. Additional investment of approximately US$380 million is expected.
Once operational, the new line will increase GTMC’s annual production capacity from 200,000 to 320,000 vehicles, enabling GTMC to better respond to the expanding Chinese market.

Very wise decision by Toyota to supply what could soon be the world largest market. India may be next?

Someone got mad at me for providing information to an auto industry forum on a car website on vehicle production expansions in China. I think 15% to 20% auto expansions(per year?) anywhere are worthy of reporting.
