In coordination with Earth Day the City of Tempe
had a Town Lake Green-up Clean-up Volunteer Day on Saturday,
April 26, 2008. Together the Rio Salado Staff, Parks
Maintenance Staff, and over 140 volunteers removed 5-tons of
debris from the Indian Bend Wash Habitat located on the east end
of the lake. The volunteers also removed graffiti at the Curry Road
underpass and put granite along the Curry Road multi-use path.
All of these tasks not only made the area more aesthetically
pleasing it made it much safer for users. The City of Tempe wants to
thank everyone who participated in the volunteer day.

Tempe businesses and residents can help keep Tempe Town Lake
beautiful by joining the Adopt-The-Lake program. Anyone who can pick up trash, wield a pool skimmer, or polish a sign
with Windex is welcome to take part in this effort between the City of
Tempe and
Arizona Clean
& Beautiful.
Individuals can decide what kind of help they would like to provide—whether
it is weeding or clearing trails or skimming Town Lake. Businesses or
large groups may adopt any of 26 sections of Tempe Town Lake for quarterly clean ups. Their efforts will be rewarded by having the opportunity to paint trash cans with environmental messages and their
group or company name. For a list of adopted sections, click
here.
