9th wettest year on record.

- Storm-Based Warnings became effective on October 1st.
- The Atlantic Basin saw a record tying eight tropical storms (three of which became hurricanes)
form in September. Don't forget...the hurricane season doesn't end until November 30. Remember Jerry?

- Dr. Gray and his team have issued their
October-November 2007 Atlantic Basin forecast.

- Please take note: there is a voluntary recall of some Oregon Scientific Weather Radios. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC),
in cooperation with Oregon Scientifc, has announced a voluntary recall of four (4) models of Oregon Scientific Weather Radios. Details are
provided on the CPSC Website.
- Last month for Houston Intercontinental Airport went down in the books as the
8th wettest August on record.
More than half of this rain fell on the 16th and 17th when
Tropical Storm Erin affected the area. More details on Erin coming soon. In addition to the rain,
Galveston tied for the
4th warmest August on record.

It is still very early in the hurricane season and you can still check out the
National Hurricane Awareness Week
website for excellent information that can be used to save lives at work, home, while on the road, or on the water. So check it out now -
do not wait until the next storm is on our doorstep! Remember...the last hurricane to strike the upper Texas coast was
Claudette...a July hurricane four years ago!

Climate Prediction Center is now saying in their July 2nd update that either a slow evolution toward La Ni�a conditions or the

- Mark your calenders! The 2007 Houston/Galveston Hurricane Workshop will
be held on Saturday, June 9th, from 10 AM to 4 PM at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
- NOAA is predicting an
above average season. The season got off to an early start with
the formation of Subtropical Storm Andrea. Here is the first official
Tropical Weather Outlook of the season.
- You can check out our 2007 Hurricane Season Highlights page for additional
information including evacuation zones
(including potential evacuation routes), the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale, tropical cyclone
names, tidal flooding information, hurricane plan checklists and
tracking charts.

National Hurricane Awareness Week was May 20-26, 2007. The excellent information on this website can be used to save lives

- SKYWARN 2007 is winding down, and there is still time to attend one of our
training classes. Remember - we do get severe weather in April.
Some recent April severe weather events include baseball to grapefruit size
hail, an F2 tornado, flash flooding, coastal flooding and subfreezing temperatures.
- Only two months until the start of the 2007 Hurricane Season! Just another reminder that the 2007 Houston/Galveston Hurricane
Workshop will be held on Saturday, June 9th from 10 AM to 4 PM at the George R. Brown Convention Center. More details
on the workshop (including the agenda) will be coming soon! We are also keeping a list of numerous upcoming

- Thanks for all of your patience while our radar was down. In the radar tower, we ended up having to replace major mecahnical components of the
fifteen-year old system, including a 300 lb. gearbox, drive motor and the slip ring assembly. Technicians from the
Radar Operations Center in Norman, OK and local technicians worked throughout the weekend, including over twelve hours on Saturday to bring
the system back in operation. Radar down time during the past month was directly related to the gearbox problem.
- SKYWARN 2007 is here! We look forward to re-connecting with our SKYWARN veterans
and perhaps meeting those of you who would like to be one. We already have some meetings
on the schedule, (including one this Thursday, January 11th in Houston)
and we hope to see you there!
- TPC/NHC has completed their
2006 Hurricane Season Trackmap. Tropical Cyclone Reports for all of last year's systems are also available
here.
- NOAA reports that 2006 was the warmest year on record for the U.S. See details

broadcasts at around 1000 watts.
