Technical Specifications

The Technical Specifications web page has been updated to make it more user friendly. Please provide any feedback that you may have to help us further improve the site.

Some links on this page are to documents in our Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS), and others are to documents in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). ADAMS documents are provided in either PDF or Tagged Image File Format (TIFF). To obtain free viewers for displaying these formats, see our Plugins, Viewers, and Other Tools page. If you have questions about search techniques or problems with viewing or printing documents from ADAMS, please contact the Public Document Room staff.

Standard Technical Specifications (STS) are published for each of the five reactor types as a NUREG-series publication. Plants are required to operate within these specifications. Improved Standard Technical Specifications (STS) were developed based on the criteria in the Final Commission Policy Statement on Technical Specification Improvements for Nuclear Power Reactors, dated July 22, 1993 (58 FR 39132). This policy statement was subsequently codified by changes to Section 36 of Part 50 of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR 50.36) (see also 60 FR 36953 PDF ICON, July 16, 1995). STS, Revision 3 is continuously modified by NRC incorporating approved generic changes known as "Travelers". NRC encourages licensees to upgrade their technical specifications consistent with the criteria in the policy statement and conforming, to the practical extent, to Revision 3 with incorporated Travelers to the improved STS.
