ADA and ABA Accessibility Guidelines
Published in 2004, these guidelines update design criteria for the construction or alteration of facilities required to be accessible by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or the Architectural Barriers Act (ABA). The ADA covers private sector facilities (places of public accommodation and commercial facilities) and state and local government facilities. The ABA applies to facilities designed, built, altered, or leased with Federal funds. This joint update of the guidelines makes provisions for ADA and ABA facilities more consistent. The publication is comprised of three parts: a scoping section for ADA facilities (Part I), a scoping section for ABA facilities (Part II), and a common set of technical specifications referenced by both scoping documents. These guidelines will be used to update the design standards that must be followed under the ADA and the ABA. [304 pages]
