The Guadalupana Exhibit

Over the last eighty years, a family from the Saint Francis Xavier Parish is asked to erect an Altar in honor of the Virgin de Guadalupe durning the month of December. This tradation is honored here at the South Broadway Cultural Center with the annual Guadalupana exhibit.Artists who wish to display retablos and other religious art works in her honor are also invited to participate in the exhibit. La Virgen de Guadalupe has also emerged as a religious icon for revolutionary change. The United Farm Workers Movement led by activist Cesar Chavez used the image of La Virgen de Guadalupe to advocate for human rights and protest the unfair working conditions and wages of farm workers.
