The Southeastern Ecological Framework (SEF) GeoBook is a resource management support  tool hosting natural resource data on the Southeast's critical ecosystems.

Critical ecosystems are identified by SEF as part of a hub and corridor network across eight Southeastern states: Florida, Georgia, South and North Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi.  Within these states, the SEF highlights natural areas contributing to clean air, water, and ecosystem conservation.

About SAIN Live Maps and Data

The Live Maps and Data community site features searchable databases and mapping applications. From the navigation menu to the left, the following resources may be accessed:

  • Datasets resulting from biodiversity studies
  • Map layers representing species distribution, habitat, and other environmental elements
  • Data and information products from an array of biodiversity data sources

"Maps of the Region" allows users to preview SAIN project related map layers that SAIN provides through interoperable web map services.

Computer mapping data for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are downloadable from "SAIN Regional GIS Layers" and "More Online Geospatial Data" resource areas.

The "Searchable Databases" resource area contains searchable datasets on aquatic biota, invasive plants, and water quality.

National Atlas Map Layers
In the National Atlas Map Maker, you can assemble, view, and print your own maps. You can choose from hundreds of layers of geographic information to make maps. Each map layer can be displayed individually or mixed with others as you tailor a map to your needs.

Selectable layer categories include:

  • Agriculture
  • Biology
  • Boundaries
  • Climate
  • Environment
  • Geology
  • History
  • Map Reference
  • People
  • Transportation

SAIN hosts several GIS layers of spatial data pertaining to regional biodiversity.

Visit the SAIN Regional GIS Source Data pages to find downloads and links to regional spatial data on invasive plants and water quality as well as metadata for each layer.

The Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture (EBTJV) page includes downloadable information on brook trout watershed protection, enhancement, and restoration priority rankings [view metadata].

The Tennessee State Park ATBI project includes an interactive mapper of park monitoring stations, and downloadable biodiversity spatial data (metadata).

SAIN's collaboration with Lincoln Memorial University's Cumberland Mountain Research Center (CMRC); see the creek survey data (Little Yellow Creek and Gap Creek metadata), as well as regional snail distribution data and shapefiles (metadata).
