NOAA Weather Radio Overview
The National Weather Service operates a nationwide network of NOAA weather radio stations.
These radio stations broadcast continuous weather information, forecasts and warnings 24 hours a day.
The broadcasts can be heard using inexpensive weather radio receivers available from local electronics and department stores.
When selecting a NOAA weather radio receiver it is important to choose one that has the tone alert warning feature and Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME).
This allows the local NWS office to activate an audible alarm that will turn the receiver on should severe weather threaten your area.
This is the fastest and most reliable way to receive the latest forecasts and warnings.
