The Argonne Leadership Computing Facility began operation in 2006 to coincide with the award of the 2006 INCITE program allocations. ALCF has 80% of two machines (Intrepid and Surveyor) allocated through INCITE in 2009. Intrepid is an IBM Blue Gene/P with 8,196 quad-core nodes (32,768 processors) and 16 terabytes of memory. Peak performance will be 111 teraflops. Surveyor is an IBM Blue Gene/P system with 1,024 quad-core nodes (4,096 processors) and 2 terabytes of memory. Peak performance is 13.9 teraflops.
Argonne News - Inaugural IBM Blue Gene/P system to expand Argonne Leadership Computing Facility
DOE's Office of Science, Argonne National Laboratory and IBM announced completion of a contract for a 445-teraflops Blue Gene/P system for the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility (ALCF). As the ALCF's second major acquisition, this state-of-the-art Supercomputer increases the ALCF's capability by a factor of five to 556-teraflops. This additional capacity will accelerate the coming era of petascale computation in support of breakthrough science and engineering aimed at solving the nation's most challenging scientific problems.
