Title:
"Developing Environmental Guidelines to Promote Aging In
Place"
Abstract:
This project will assess the functional abilities and living
environment of 70-80 older persons residing in private homes,
supported apartments, and group homes. The assessment will be
based upon input from older people with developmental
disabilities. There are two phases to this program: intervention and
product. The first phase will develop plans that describe
functional limitations and environmental obstacles observed
during the assessments and make recommendations re limitations
and obstacles. The product phase will involve assessments of other
persons with intellectual disabilities evaluated in a pilot study.
A combined data base will be developed to disseminate a design
manual that identifies obstacles to aging in place and provides
guidelines of correction, safety, productivity, home improvement,
and assistive technologies that offer a preliminary tool for
assessing people's environmental capabilities.

Title:
"A Model Program to Provide Transitional Training to D. D.
Students in their Community "
Abstract:
This project proposes to establish a model that will effectively and
efficiently provide individual training in the areas of employment, housing,
transportation, and recreation-related skills. Projected plans will
enable students to move closer to living independently and
become more productive and integrated in their communities.
Also, plans are to establish a centrally located facility which will be
utilized for the above-mentioned training, as well as a site for
emergency respite care for the participants. The project will employ
persons with developmental disabilities in key areas, such as
coordinators and managers of the project, as well as maintenance
of care for the facility. It will include strategies, procedures,
methods, and products that will provide uniformity and
efficiency, including helping other entities and using
components to track and record student information and
analyze the effectiveness of the project.
