There are no restrictions known to the Library.
Access: Permitted; subject to Prints & Photographs
Division (P&P) policy on serving originals.
Reproduction (photocopying, hand-held camera copying,
photoduplication and other forms of copying allowed by "fair
use"): Permitted;
subject to P&P policy on copying. This policy prohibits xeroxing of
most original photographs in this collection.
Publication and other forms of distribution: Permitted.
There are no known restrictions on photographs in this collection. About
fifty of the portraits of soldiers (mostly enlisted men) in the "Selected
Civil War Photographs" are copies of photographs that the Library of Congress
borrowed during the 1950s and early 1960s. (The catalog records for these
images contain a note field
beginning "Copy photo made by LC...".) After copying, the original photographs
were returned to their owners but the Library did not retain a record of their
names and addresses. The Library is not aware of any restrictions on these images,
but is anxious to hear from individuals or institutions that own the original
photographs or who know of their history.
