Timothy Creagan Joins the Board as an IT Access Specialist January 9, 2006

Timothy Creagan has joined the Access Board as a senior specialist in accessible information and telecommunication technology. As a member of the Board’s Office of Technical and Information Services, he will provide technical assistance and training to the public on Board guidelines and standards, including standards for electronic and information technology issued under section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and guidelines for telecommunication products covered by section 255 of the Telecommunications Act. In addition, he will oversee Board efforts to review, update, and supplement these design criteria.

Before joining the Board, Creagan served as Director of Consumer Training at the Information Technology Technical Assistance and Training Center (ITTATC), which promotes the development and use of accessible telecommunications and electronic and information technology. In this capacity, he recruited and trained consumers and service providers for a nationwide train-the-trainer program. He also developed training modules and other materials on disability laws, including the Rehabilitation Act and the Telecommunications Act. Previously, he was Director of Public Policy at the Hearing Loss Association of America (formerly Self Help for Hard of Hearing People).

A member of the bar, Creagan’s legal background includes service as an assistant county attorney for Montgomery County, Maryland and a litigation attorney specializing in real estate and contracts. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and a law degree from the Columbus School of Law, the Catholic University of America.

Creagan succeeds Doug Wakefield, the Board’s previous 508 specialist, who retired from government service last June.
