Question: What was the nature of a visit by the Malaysian Charge d’Affaires to the State Department on Friday, September 12?

Answer: On September 12, 2008, Charge d’Affaires a.i. Ilango Karuppannan of the Malaysian Embassy met with Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Glyn Davies.

The State Department has regular meetings with Malaysian officials in Washington on a number of subjects.

The detention on Friday of three people in Malaysia under its Internal Security Act was one of the topics discussed.
