African-American Women's Health Policy Report

OWH provided support for 7 fellows to participate in and develop this summary publication of proceedings from the Avery Institute for Social Change Summer Seminar 2002 and 2003. These services were intended to provide OWH with recommendations regarding the improvement of the health (including heart health) of African American women in the United States. The above seminars contributed greatly to the understanding of the government of the barriers to and solutions for improvement of the health of African American women, who as a group have the worst indicators of cardiovascular health of any ethnic minority group in the United States.

Cardiovascular Health for Women, Primary Prevention: an Education Initiative for Nurses and Women

OWH funded the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) to revise the cardiovascular guidelines for the prevention and diagnosis of heart disease in women, and to develop train-the-trainer sessions for nurses in the application of these guidelines. A copy of the guidelines can be ordered through the website of AWHONN
