Procedures to Follow Before Starting a Web Site

Establishing a web presence in IHS allows departments to provide information about IHS, its mission, recruitment and educational resources for both internal and external audiences. A web site acts as a continuously evolving media that will undoubtedly grow in scope as IHS expands into the future.

Process

The IHS Web team is here to assist in the development of your department's web presence, as well as guide the Content Manager of the up-to-date requirements and guidelines for establishing a web site on the IHS server.

1. Select the Content Manager (CM)

Responsibilities:
The Content Manager might develop and will maintain the web site pages using the IHS web templates created by the IHS Web Team, as well as follow the requirements and guidelines directed by the Web Team in developing web sites on the IHS Internet/Intranet web sites.

The CM should also be aware of the Section 508 requirement and guidelines as well as other IHS web development standards discussed in the Policies and Procedures section of this web site.

The CM is responsible for any data entry or revision of content to a new or redesigned website. This applies to html file content and databased content. The Content Manager needs to also consider the time and effort required to update the content on their website. Content maintenance, which includes continuous compliance with IHS and Section 508 accessibility requirements, is the responsibilitiy of the Content Manger as well.

2. Submit the Web Request Form

After you have selected your Content Manager, fill in the IHS Web Site Request Form and submit it by following the directions at the end of the form. Click this link to download the Web Site Request Form in WORD format.

3. Meet with an Account Representative

After you have submitted the Web Request Form, and it has been approved, an Account Representative from the IHS Web Team will be assigned to meet with you to discuss the objectives of your web site.
