John A. Heffern joined the Foreign Service in 1982. Currently a member of the Senior Foreign Service, John has focused most of his career on East Asia, with postings in Malaysia, Japan and China. His most recent Washington position was as the Executive Assistant to the Under Secretary for Political Affairs. He is currently serving as Deputy Chief of Mission in Jakarta, Indonesia. With the departure of Ambassador Pascoe from post on February 17, Heffern has assumed the position of Chargé d’Affairs, pending the arrival of the new Ambassador.
