BIOGRAPHY

Laurence G. Brown, MD
Director, Office of Medical Services
Term of Appointment: 04/21/2003 to present

Dr. Laurence G. Brown was appointed Medical Director of the Office of Medical Services on April 21, 2003. A native of Ohio, Dr. Brown spent 1965-66 as an American Field Service exchange student in Sydney, Australia.  Dr. Brown attended Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology in 1970.  He obtained his Medical Degree from the College of Medicine, Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio in 1973.  Following a 3-year residency in Family Practice in Lansing, Michigan, Dr. Brown practiced as a family physician in Albany, Oregon for 6 years.  

 

Dr. Brown joined the Foreign Service in July 1982 as a Regional Medical Officer, and has served in Islamabad, Pakistan; Jakarta, Indonesia; London, United Kingdom; and Vienna, Austria.  He was part of the Washington management team for the Office of Medical Services from 1989-95.  During this time he served as Chief of Medical Clearances, Chief of Foreign Programs, and for 3 years as Deputy Medical Director.  He remains board certified in Family Practice, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and holds certificates in Advanced Trauma Life Support, Advance Cardiac Life Support, and Chem-Bio Preparedness.
