- 4 new Foster Grandparents have been enrolled into the Austin State School Foster Grandparent Program to work with 22 more children who have been identified as evacuees.
- 4 Goodwill Industries of Central East Texas VISTA members in Lufkin are setting up two job fairs for Hurricane Katrina evacuees and providing vouchers for both Hurricane Katrina and Rita evacuees to use in the Goodwill stores to get free clothing, shoes, and other items; 868 vouchers have been provided, 2,699 evacuees have been served, and over $43,780 worth of goods have been provided. VISTA members also recruited other volunteers to sort and process new donations received from community members.
- 7 Random Acts of Kindness VISTA members are assisting with the sending of 6 diesel trucks full of relief supplies (food, water, medicines, baby stuff, hygiene products, etc.) to affected areas, raisingapproximately $18,000 in monetary donations (for supplies and fuel cost), sending two teams of volunteers to assist with the distribution of the supplies, sending 5 trucks to the Louisiana and Mississippi regions and one to Beaumont, Texas, and collecting $1000 for a church in Bogalosa, La., for roof repair.
