Life Care Center of Treasure Valley in Boise, Idaho, Receives OSHA Safety Recognition Award

SEATTLE -- Life Care Center of Treasure Valley in Boise, Idaho, has received the Merit Recognition Award from the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for the nursing home's outstanding safety and health program. Joe Rudd, executive director of LCCTV, accepted the award in a ceremony at the Boise facility June 19.

According to Richard Terrill, OSHA's regional administrator in Seattle, the Merit Recognition Award is part of OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), designed to promote and recognize effective safety and health programs in the workplace. Only employers with the best job safety and health programs are eligible for the Voluntary Protection Program.

"The LCCTV nursing home is a model of workplace safety excellence in the nursing home industry," Terrill said in presenting the award. "The LCCTV is the first nursing home in the Northwest to receive such recognition and one of 11 VPP sites in Idaho."

VPP sites must implement safe working procedures that meet or exceed all OSHA regulatory standards and submit to an OSHA review of their programs. OSHA found that the LCCTV excels in established emergency preparedness procedures, preventive maintenance, and general housekeeping. The nursing home has made a commitment to improvements in some of its safety procedures, including ergonomics.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is dedicated to saving lives, preventing injuries and illnesses, and protecting America's workers. Safety and health add value to business, the workplace and life. For more information, visit www.osha.gov.
