Dear National Service Colleagues:
Earlier today, at our national conference in Philadelphia, the Hands On Network and the Points of Light Foundation announced mutual board approval to merge their two organizations. As their joint press release notes, this merger will transform the landscape of the volunteer sector by creating a network of 370 affiliate organizations that cover 83% of the nation.
This merger is an historic and exciting event that will strengthen America’s volunteer sector and is a model for putting mission first. It brings the established legacy of the Points of Light Foundation and its network of Volunteer Centers together with the volunteer expertise and business model of the Hands On Network. I am grateful to Michelle Nunn, co-founder and CEO of the Hands On Network; Terry Williams, interim CEO of the Foundation; and the boards and staffs of the two organizations for working very hard over a number of months to make this merger happen. The Corporation has been a very strong partner with both the Points of Light Foundation and the Hands On Network, and we look forward to strengthening this collaboration with the new organization. Together our communities and the nation will reap the benefits of this merger for many years to come.
In Service,
David Eisner CEO, Corporation for National and Community Service
