Summary:
People are by virtue of their assignment location, thrust into professional roles for which they have not been adequately prepared by previous schooling or experience. “Challenges” is designed for all new Indian Health Service [IHS], tribal, and urban dentists within their first three to six months of service. The course provides a basis for understanding and working in the IHS dental programs as well as to establish a baseline of skill and knowledge to be able to provide dental services efficiently and effectively. |
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
1. Provide an overview of IHS history, mission and structure, personnel issues, and career development.
2. Increase efficiency to provide stainless steel crowns and other pediatric services.
3. Increase efficiency in diagnosis of endodontically treated teeth, periodontal disease and caries.
4. Be able to demonstrate sound oral surgical technique, diagnosis and treatment of infections.
5. Provide principles of health promotion and disease prevention and be able to interpret them relative to oral health. |
