May 16-17, 2005
Rockville, MD

Sponsor/Co-Sponsor(s): NICHD/NCMRR, ORD, DOE, DARPA.

To review in a transdisciplinary context important technologies holding promise for pediatric critical care and rehabilitation, with special emphasis on innovation to enable effective critical care and rehabilitation for children that minimizes barrier to reintegration into home, school and family. As well, we will review the current state of the art in several key areas of recent innovative technology, in order to seek and enable research opportunities and to determine which new targets and agents demonstrate the most potential for product development. Conference participants will be given the opportunity in transdisciplinary small groups, to delineate the gaps that remain to transition these discoveries into products that are meaningful for children with special health care needs and critical illness and injury. Recommendations from the meeting will be generated from the organizers and the participants in order to identify the most promising opportunities for future investment and research team development. Publication in pediatric and engineering professional journals is anticipated.
