Dean
P. Gulezian has been Director of the National Weather
Service, Eastern Region since October of 2000. This federal
office is headquartered in Bohemia, New York with responsibility
for 30 weather services offices in 16 states. Mr. Gulezian’s
region covers the Eastern Seaboard from Maine to South
Carolina, as far west as Ohio. A 28-year NWS veteran,
Dean took over the position as Director after 10 years
as meteorologist-in-charge (MIC) of the NWS forecast office
in Detroit, MI.
The
Lynnfield, MA High School graduate began his NWS career
in the Eastern Region as a student trainee at the Hartford,
CT Wea ther Service Office and worked his way up from meteorological
intern to lead forecaster at the weather services’s
Portland, ME facility. He has also held the positions of
MIC at the Columbia, MO Weather Service Office, Eastern
Region Aviation Meteorologist, and Deputy MIC at the Philadelphia,
PA Weather Forecast Office.
Mr.
Gulezian holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Meteorology
from the Lowell Technological Institute (now the University
of Massachusetts-Lowell) and a Masters Degree in Meteorology
from Penn State.
