Locations of Research and Test Reactor Sites Undergoing Decommissioning
The Office of Federal and State Materials and Environmental Management Programs (FSME) has project management
and inspection oversight for decommissioning research and test reactors. Iinspections will be conducted by regional staff.
Currently seven research and test reactors have approved decommissioning plans with six of those actively decommissioning. Two others have decommissioning plans under review. Two of the five inactive permanently shutdown research and test reactors still have fuel on site awaiting removal by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). For more information, see Research and Test Reactors and Backgrounder on Research and Test Reactors.
