Special Survivor Indemnity Allowance (SSIA)

A provision of the National Defense Authorization Act Fiscal Year 2008, Public Law 110-181, established the SSIA for surviving spouses who are the beneficiary of the Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) annuity, and their Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC), paid by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

CRSC/CRDP Open Season January 1 – 31, 2008
In September 2006, the Department of Veteran's Affairs (DVA) identified more than 133,000 recipients of Combat Related Special Compensation (CRSC) or Concurrent Retired Disability Payment (CRDP) that may be eligible for additional retroactive compensation. If a retiree is eligible for both CRDP and CRSC, he/she may participate in the CRSC/CRDP Open Season. This annual election will be from January 1 through January 31, 2008 and allows the retiree to choose which payment is preferred (federal law states that you can receive CRDP or CRSC; not both).
