U.S. Department Of Transportation Seeks New Fishing Committee Members

The U.S. Coast Guard is seeking applications for six new members of the Commercial Fishing Industry Vessel Advisory Committee (CFIVAC). Applications must be received by July 5, 2002. 

The committee was formed as a result of the Commercial Fishing Industry Vessel Safety Act of 1988 to provide advice to the U.S. Secretary of Transportation on commercial fishing safety-related issues.  The CFIVAC is comprised of 17 members who serve a three-year term. Applications are being sought for six positions that expire or become vacant in October 2002 in the following categories:   

All members serve at their own expense and receive no salary from the federal government, although travel reimbursement and per diem are provided.  The committee meets at least once a year in various cities nationwide.  Subcommittee meetings are held to consider specific problems as required.
