Top of Page World Weather Records

World Weather Records is a six volume series (one volume per region; eg--Africa) that presents monthly and annual values of mean temperature, total precipitation, mean station pressure, and mean sea level pressures for thousands of stations around the world. Also included are decadel averages and 30 year normal averages for these parameters. Detailed station notes are also included which describe the observing practices, instrumentation, equations used to create the means and totals, as well as other metadata. The series is published once every 10 ten years containing the data for the previous decade. NCDC currently has back issues available for most of the volumes in the 1961-70, 1971-80 and 1981-90 series. The 1981-90 and 1971-80 series are all hard bound books, while the 1961-70 series are soft bound.

    Top of Page Marine Publications

These publications were prepared for selected marine areas. Surface marine statistics are presented on monthly charts in the form of graphs, tables, and isopleth maps. Statistics include the means or percent frequency of occurrence of threshold values for wind, visibility, clouds, precipitation, air and sea surface temperatures, ocean waves, and sea ice for a given month. The intent is to present data on climatological conditions within the designated marine and near coastal area.

    • Climatic Atlas of the Outer Continental Shelf Waters and Coastal Regions of Alaska
These atlases update the knowledge of the climatological conditions for the Alaskan marine and near coastal zone.
    • Climatic Study of the Near Coastal Zone
These atlases contain climatological summaries for the following parameters: visibility, ceiling, wind, air temperature, sea surface temperature, waves, and surface currents.
    • U.S. Navy Hindcast Spectral Ocean Wave Model Climatic Atlas
These atlases contain climatological summaries for the following parameters: wind speed and direction, significant wave height, wave direction, wave slope, modal wave period, and directionality of waves.
    • U.S. Navy Marine Climatic Atlas of the World
These atlases contain climatological summaries for the following meteorological parameters: wind speed and direction, air temperature, temperature extremes and temperature-humidity index, sea surface temperature, humidity, wet bulb, precipitation, visibility, cloud cover, ceiling and visibility, sea level pressure, waves (period, direction, height), and tropical cyclones.
    • U.S Navy Regional Climatic Summaries
These atlases contain climatological summaries for the following parameters: clouds, precipitation, visibility tables, ceiling visibility (mid range), ceiling visibility (low range), wind-visibility-cloudiness, mean scalar wind speed, wind speed < 11 and > = 34 knots, wind speed 11-21 and 22-33 knots, air and sea temperature, wave height, and surface conditions.

Top of Page Local Climatological Data Annual Summaries

The Local Climatological Data annual summary includes that specific year's monthly summaries as well as climatic normals and extremes. Tables showing a 30 year monthly history of temperature means, precipitation totals, snow totals, and heating '&' cooling degree days are also provided. Wind and humidity climatology tables and a monthly tally of rain days, snow days and days within selected temperature thresholds are also included along with a narrative climate description. These are available as hardcopy publications from 1995 through 1999 and on cdrom from 2000 through the most currently available annuals of 2003.
