Casa De California

Casa de California

La Casa de la Universidad de California en México is located in Mexico City, nestled in the colonial town of Chimalistac. Wedged between Coyocán and San Ángel, it is near the National University (UNAM), the Colegio de México and other premier institutions of higher learning and research.

The site resembles a mini-campus with several buildings placed in an expansive landscaped garden. The main building, La Casona, is an elegant two-story structure erected in the early 20th century. It offers ample space for offices, conferences and receptions. The rest of the campus provides more space specifically devoted to classrooms, research offices and meeting rooms. In the near future, the facility will be wired for state-of-art communications, allowing for real-time teleconferencing.

UC's Education Abroad Program and the Institute for Mexico and the United States (UC MEXUS) will soon establish permanent offices at La Casa de California from where novel education and research programs will be undertaken in close collaboration with UC's academic partners in Mexico. Ultimately, La Casa de California will host an animated, vigorous and multifarious calendar of collaborative activities, graduate and undergraduate instruction, scholarly meetings, and cultural events. The facility will also be made available to other UC programs with interests in Mexico.

UC faculty and graduate students moreover will find a home away from home while in Mexico, and a robust infrastructure to support their work. Instructions on how to request access the facility will be provided as soon as La Casa de California is ready to open its doors.

The site is currently undergoing architectural renovation and improvements so that it is properly equipped and complies with UC standards for public safety and access to disabled persons. The architectural work is expected to be completed in fall 2004.

Please check this web site in the future for more information and updates about the UC facility in Mexico.
