Paying for UC

Important information for students and parents

The University of California experienced $410 million in state budget cuts for the 2003-04 fiscal year. To help close the gap, student fees were raised 30 percent.

UC's top priority is preserving quality in the student instructional program. As a result, deep cuts are being taken in essentially every other area of the University’s budget. Many UC programs are slated for budget cuts in the range of 30 to 50 percent. Employee layoffs are being planned in many parts of the University.

Fee increases are part of a package of solutions UC is deploying to cope with the budget shortfall.
