Hands On Experience in State Government

The UCCS Academic Program gives undergraduate and graduate students a rare opportunity to learn about California's public policy and journalistic processes firsthand. The program includes rigorous coursework as well as professional experiences built while living, interning and conducting research in the State Capitol.

Offered during academic terms and summer, students enroll in classes while working 24-40 hours per week in internship placements.

Fostering Public Policy Research

The UCCS Research Program provides resources to UC students and faculty, visiting scholars, and staff from state offices and the legislature to further their policy research efforts.

Activities include helping researchers network with both expert and technical resources throughout the UC system as well as within the State Capitol. This includes access to the California Digital Library (CDL), a powerful research tool used across UC campuses.

Connecting the Capitol Community to UC Experts

The UCCS Public Service Program provides the Capitol Community an effective way to tap UC expertise.

The program provides California policymakers with short-term technical assistance such as arranging expert witnesses for legislative hearings and briefings on key state issues.

Other activities include sponsoring speakers and roundtables on policy issues and preparing and briefing VIP visitors to the State.
