(This press release is in English and Spanish)
Thursday, August 30, 2007

KING COUNTY, WASHINGTON - To increase access to health care for families, local health organizations are coming together on September 8 to provide free health screenings, health information and community resources at the 3rd Annual South King County Latino Family Health Fair.

Saturday, September 8
9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Grace Community Church
1320 Auburn Way S. [MAP]
Auburn, Washington 98002

Spanish-speaking staff will be present at the fair, which will feature free Pap tests and mammograms, as well as dental, vision, blood pressure and diabetes screenings. Interested persons can call 1-800-756-5437 for more information or to make an appointment for a Pap test or mammogram.

“This health fair is an opportunity for communities in south King County to obtain valuable health information and services,” said Dr. David Fleming, Director and Health Officer for Public Health - Seattle & King County.

Last year’s Health of King County report showed that south King County experiences lower health status and more limited access to health care when compared with other areas of the county. In addition, Latinos are disproportionately affected by higher rates of adolescent births, physical inactivity, HIV and access to health care.

The 3rd Annual South King County Latino Family Health Fair is a partnership among Public Health - Seattle & King County, the Komen Foundation, the Washington Breast & Cervical Health Program, YWCA, the City of Auburn, Community Health Plan, Washington Health Foundation’s Community Health Access Program, Swedish Medical Center, the Avon Foundation, Christ Community Free Clinic, and Grace Community Church.

Providing effective and innovative health and disease prevention services for over 1.8 million residents and visitors of King County, Public Health – Seattle & King County works for safer and healthier communities for everyone, every day.
