Superfund Basic Research Program

The SBRP funds multidisciplinary research that addresses the broad, complex human and environmental health issues surrounding hazardous waste sites. Consequently, its research has the potential to impact many sites and stakeholder groups whose work complements that of the Program, particularly the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), and state and regional hazardous waste agencies.

Recognizing the importance of maintaining open communications channels with these sister agencies, we actively engage with our colleagues in other government and state organizations in an effort to improve the Program's ability to address societal needs, transfer the most recent research results and identify potential future research needs.

For example, we work closely with the EPA Office of Superfund Remediation and Technology Innovation (OSRTI), meeting regularly with senior staff to discuss ongoing and future coordination efforts. SBRP has also coordinated closely with OSRTI's Community Involvement Center to share community outreach materials and tools, and has also teamed with its Technology Innovation Program (TIP) to host the ongoing Risk-e-Learning series.
