U.S. Transportation Secretary Mineta Announces $15.1 Million for Pittsburgh
International Airport
U.S. Secretary of Transportation Norman Y. Mineta today announced grants
totaling $15.1 million to enhance safety and security at Pittsburgh
International Airport.
"President Bush and I remain dedicated to building a safe, secure and reliable
transportation system that operates efficiently, strengthens the economy and
improves our quality of life," Secretary Mineta said. "Safety is the Bush
administration's top transportation priority, and protecting and improving our
transportation infrastructure is of central importance to all Americans. These
investments will help Pittsburgh International Airport maintain the highest
levels of safety and security in the years ahead."
A grant of $11.3 million will be used to enhance security at the airport. An
additional grant of $3.8 million will be used to rehabilitate four taxiways and
for the second phase of rehabilitating the apron.
The grants come from the Airport Improvement Program of the U.S. Department of
Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration.
