U.S. Transportation Secretary Mineta Announces $1.95 Million for Lawrenceville Airport
U.S.
Secretary of Transportation Norman Y. Mineta today announced a grant of $1.95
million to rehabilitate a runway at Briscoe Field in Lawrenceville, GA.
"President Bush and I remain dedicated to building a reliable, efficient
and secure transportation system that will encourage Americans to travel,
strengthen our economy and improve our quality of life," Secretary Mineta
said. "Safety is the
Bush administration's top transportation priority, and protecting and improving
our transportation infrastructure is of central importance to all Americans.
This grant will help Briscoe Field maintain the highest levels of safety
in the years ahead."
"These critical funds will allow Lawrenceville Airport to further
strengthen our economy and enhance our transportation infrastructure," said
U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss. "On
behalf of all Georgians, I want to thank President Bush for his strong
leadership and steadfast commitment to strengthening our economy and bolstering
Georgia's transportation needs."
The rehabilitation project will repair damaged pavement in order to extend the
runway's life. Briscoe Field is an
active reliever airport to Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport with over
100,000 annual aircraft operations.
The grant comes from the Airport Improvement Program of the U.S. Department of
Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration.
