Tabs: VPR

A vertical profile of reflectivity (VPR) can be used to identify precipitation type and to adjust elevated data. Details of how the VPRs are derived can be found in Appendix C (.pdf, 2.3 MB). The default image from clicking the VPR tab or in the window is shown in Figure 13, at right. This image CANNOT be zoomed.

The solid white squares indicate that a VPR is available.

To see VPR squares on a zoomed image:

  1. Select a 3D Mosaic derived reflectivity product (e.g., CREF).
  2. Click on the image to zoom.
  3. Click on the VPR tab.

The zoomed image (Figure 14, at right) will show the VPR squares as well as the 20 and 80 km range rings between which the VPR is computed.
  4. Clicking on (e.g.,) OAX will create the OAX VPR (Figure 15, at right).

Inst. - instantaneous VPR from the most recent volume scan
Average - hour average of Inst. VPRs
    Strat. - stratiform echo VPR
    Conv. - convective echo VPR

RUC 0C, -10C and -20C heights are plotted; green is the height of the radar above MSL.
