STATEMENT BY U.S. SECRETARY OF TRANSPORTATION NORMAN Y. MINETA
ON FIRESTONE DECISION
“Firestone is to be commended for taking appropriate action to protect consumers. Today’s announcement shows that our system of safety standards is working. The Department’s NHTSA investigators identified a potential safety problem using our new early warning reporting system and worked closely with Firestone, which quickly agreed to act. Ultimately, American consumers can continue to be assured that our safety experts are working to maximize their safety and protect their interests.”
