U.S. Transportation Secretary Mineta Announces $4.8 Million in Grants
to Improve Runways and Taxiways, Enhance Safety at Three New Jersey Airports

U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta today announced grants totaling $4.8 million for runway and taxiway upgrades to expand capacity and enhance safety at three New Jersey airports: Millville Municipal, Cape May County, and Hammonton Municipal.

“These new safety and capacity upgrades will position New Jersey’s airports to take full advantage of the growing demand for air travel being fueled by the expanding economy,” Secretary Mineta said.

“This is great news for local airports in Southern New Jersey,” said Congressman Frank LoBiondo. “These federal funds represent a positive investment in airport safety, and will help our facilities maintain a high level of service.”

The grants will provide funding for projects such as rehabilitating runway and taxiway lighting, improving taxiways and drainage systems, and land acquisition. The funds come from the Airport Improvement Program of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration.
