This program, directed by Dr. Charisee Lamar supports basic, clinical, interdisciplinary, and translational research on the etiology, treatment, and prevention of impaired fertility. The program encompasses: pathophysiology, incidence and prevalence of infertility secondary to disease or its treatment; evaluation and modification of treatment approaches to minimize their impact on fertility; subgroup characterization of individuals most likely to experience premature reproductive failure secondary to treatment, technology development that more accurately measures gonadal damage and relates damage to reproductive failure; and technology development designed to optimize and expand options for fertility preservation.
Dr. Lamar also directs the Institutional K12 Building Interdisciplinary Research in Women’s Health (BIRCWH) Program on behalf of the NIH, Office of Research on Women’s Health (ORWH). BIRCWH supports research career development of junior faculty members who have recently completed clinical training or postdoctoral fellowships, and who are pursuing basic, translational, clinical and/or health services research relevant to women’s health.
