Alaska
Elder Joins NRCS Employee’s Association Council
Marie Meade, a Yup'ik elder from the village of Nunapicuaqhe, will soon become
the first Alaska elder to join the National Elders Council for the NRCS American
Indian Alaska Native Employee's Association (AIANEA).

Bus loads of students from Sterling, Colorado, area high schools arrived at the
Northeastern Junior College (NJC) campus recently to test their knowledge of
soils as part of their vocational agriculture training and regional Future
Farmers of America competition program.

First
USDA 2007 Farm Bill Forum Announced — July 7 in Nashville, Tennessee
Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns has announced the first Farm Bill Forum and
topics on which USDA is seeking input from America’s farmers, ranchers, and
rural residents regarding development of the 2007 Farm Bill.
Energizing Conservation
The Nation’s excessive reliance on fossil fuel energy is an emerging resource
concern identified for NRCS development work . The Bio-energy Technology
Development Team or Energy Team for short, headquartered at the
West National Technology
Support Center, was established to address this concern.
The
New American Farmer, 2nd edition Spotlights Innovative Farmers’ Conservation
Efforts
Among the more than 60 farmers and ranchers featured in The New American Farmer,
2nd edition, a 200-page book just published by the Sustainable Agriculture
Network, are several who have achieved their conservation goals with help from
NRCS.
Wyoming
Stock Growers Honor Everet Bainter
NRCS State Rangeland Management Specialist Everet Bainter was recently
recognized by the Wyoming Stock Growers Association as the Outstanding Range
Professional for 2005 at the Wyoming Cattle Industry Convention and Trade Show
in Cheyenne.
