Texas
Battleground Marsh Restored
Coastal America, a partnership of Federal, State, and local agencies and private
organizations, recently presented Eddie Seidensticker, NRCS soil conservationist
in Anahuac, Texas, with the 2004 Coastal America Partnership Award for his role
in helping restore the San Jacinto Marsh in La Porte, Texas.
Watkins
Mill Dam Rehab Project First in Missouri
Thanks to the NRCS Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Program and the
State of Missouri, the Watkins Mill dam that creates a 100-acre lake in Watkins
Woolen Mill State Park and State Historic Site is the first in Missouri to be
rehabilitated.
Louisiana State
University AgCenter Program and EQIP Inspire Positive Changes at Cattle Farm
A LSU AgCenter program recently inspired a cattle producer to make positive
changes at his farm. David Watson manages about 38 cows in the rolling hills of
St. Helena Parish. To make improvements, Watson is relying partially on
funds available from the Environmental Quality Incentives Program.

Provides $6.9 Million for Natural Disaster Recovery in California
NRCS is providing $6.9 million in Emergency Watershed Protection Program (EWP)
funding to help southern California recover from recent severe storms and
flooding. In Ventura County, two projects needing immediate attention are along
Santa Paula Creek and the Santa Paula Airport where there is significant
infrastructure damage. EWP projects provide sound erosion control measures that
are economically and environmentally defensible.

Sends Employees to Afghanistan
From September 2003 to date, a half dozen NRCS employees have been selected
and deployed for six-month details serving as ag advisors on provincial
reconstruction teams (PRTs) in Afghanistan.

is National Women's History Month
The 2005, Women's History Month theme, Women Change America, honors and
recognizes the role of American women in transforming culture, history, and
politics as leaders, writers, scientists, educators, politicians, artists,
historians, and informed citizens.
Women Change America also celebrates the myriad ways in which the spirit,
courage, and contributions of American women have added to the vitality,
richness, and diversity of American life. In 2005, all previous Women's History
Week and Month Honorees will be recognized and celebrated as we explore how
Women Change America. Your support of National
Women's History Month will help NRCS create a better workplace for all
employees.
Earth
Day, April 22, 2005
We are asking our NRCS public affairs specialists and others to find out about
Earth Day events in their States. As this year is the 70th anniversary of NRCS,
the 20th anniversary of the Earth Team, and the
Excellence in Conservation Award presentation on Earth Day, April 22, it’s doubly important to be aware of Earth Day events going on in the

The New American Farmer CDs Available
Preparing for the release of the second edition of
The New American Farmer, SAN
is liquidating our existing stock of The New American Farmer CDs. This
collection of in-depth interviews with farmers and ranchers describes
sustainable farm operations around the country. The New American Farmer details
the effects of those practices on farm profitability, quality of life, rural
communities and the environment. These CDs make great handouts at workshops,
