The U.S. Congress
has authorized the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service to pay rewards to
those individuals who provide information about violations of Federal
wildlife laws.
The name of the individual providing the information can
be kept confidential.
The amount of the award depends on factors:
· The independence with which the individual with the information
contacted the authorities
· The thoroughness of the information provided
· The timeliness of the information provided
· The impact of the information provided to the investigation
· The willingness of the individual to testify is asked to do so
· Other factors deemed significant to the Government
If you have information about a violation of Federal wildlife laws, please
contact your nearest U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Special Agent by telephone,
or return to the Report a Violation
screen and send an email to the appropriate Resident-Agent-in-Charge for
your area by choosing the appropriate "submit report" button
in the "Location of Violation" block.
Many state conservation agencies also have "Turn in Poachers"
hot lines which you may wish to call to report a violation of either state
or Federal Wildlife laws. Often these numbers are toll free. In many cases,
the states also offer rewards for reporting violations.
(Contact information
for your nearest Special Agent, as well as your State agency, is available
from the Region 4 Law Enforcement Home Page by
clicking on the office nearest you.)
