November 2007 Storm Report |
|
|
Short Weather Summary |
|
The first widespread freezes
of the season arrived on-time in November, with a few rounds of cold air
from the northwest. The coldest air and well below normal temperatures
were noted to end the month, which is also when the heaviest rain
occurred. Otherwise, it was generally mild and dry in November...with
little in the way of severe weather. |
|
There was one record low temperature during a stretch of
cold days to end November. Check
out the record below. |

Low (Date of Occurrence) |
North Little Rock |
28 (11/23) |
|
A cold front pushed through Arkansas on November 5th, with
temperatures in the 70s and 80s ahead of the front. The warmth was gone
on the 6th, with a widespread freeze by the morning of the 7th.
|
In the picture: The weather pattern at 6 pm CST on 11/05/2007...with a cold
front pushing through Arkansas and a large area of high pressure ("H") and much cooler air
to the northwest. |
Readings warmed up again toward the middle of the month
as another front approached on the 14th. The front triggered scattered
severe thunderstorms, with a few reports of large hail and damaging
winds.
Penny to quarter size hail was reported in the Little Rock (Pulaski
County) area, with winds gusting to around 60 mph at Cabot (Lonoke
County).
The strongest front of the month visited on the 21st, with a 40
degree temperature spread across the front. During the afternoon of the
21st, readings in southeast Arkansas were in the upper 70s... with upper
30s in the northwest corner of the state.
|
By the morning of the 23rd (behind the front), temperatures dipped into the 10s and
20s...with some lower 30s in the southern and eastern
counties. |
|
In the picture: Low temperatures on 11/23/2007. Readings
were below freezing. |
The front stalled along the Gulf Coast, with a storm system forming
along the front. Warmth and moisture south of the front was thrown over
cooler conditions farther north. |
|
This overrunning pattern led to
widespread rain in Arkansas on the 24th/25th. One to three inches of
rain fell in the southeast half of the state. |
In the picture: Precipitation for the 120 hour period ending at 7 am CST on
11/26/2007. "E" is estimated precipitation. |
While it was wet in Arkansas, Winter was not far away. It
was cold enough to support snow in west Texas, with accumulations over
six inches in some areas. |
In the Tropics |
|
There were no named storms in
November, with a total of 14 storms during the 2007 hurricane season. This
was up from 10 named storms in 2006. |
