Biosketch: 
Donald Stein, Ph.D., is a physiological psychologist and Asa G. Candler Professor of Emergency Medicine, Neurology and Psychobiology, at the Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Stein served Emory for five years as Vice Provost for Graduate Studies, Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and interim Vice President for Research. Dr. Stein was Vice Provost for Research and Dean of the Graduate School at Rutgers University, Newark from 1988-1995, and also adjunct professor of Neurology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Oregon in 1965. Dr. Stein's research has long focused on examining the processes underlying recovery of function after traumatic injury to the brain. Dr. Stein is the author of over 250 articles, book chapters, reviews and papers on the subject of recovery from brain injury. He has also authored or edited 16 books on the topic and has lectured at numerous institutions around the world. His term on the National Advisory Child Health and Human Development (NACHHD) Council expires 11/30/2008. His areas of expertise include recovery from brain injury, hormones and brain injury, sex difference in central nervous system (CNS) plasticity and repair, aging and brain injury, academic strategic planning, stem cells and CNS, and neuroplasticity.
