Biosketch: 
Lois A. Maiman, Ph.D., is a medical sociologist and behavioral scientist in the Office of the Director, CDBPM, with expertise in psychosocial factors, health systems, and programs that promote health, prevent illness and enable individuals to manage disease. Dr. Maiman has designed and evaluated theory-driven intervention projects to change health behaviors in clinical and community-based maternal and child populations and influence the practice patterns of primary care physicians. Dr. Maiman received her Ph.D. and M.Sc. from The Johns Hopkins University School of Arts and Sciences and School of Hygiene and Public Health. While associate professor, Departments of Pediatrics and Community and Preventive Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, she was an NICHD grantee. From 1990 to 1997, she was Branch Chief of the Prevention Research Branch in the DESPR, NICHD. As a member of the CDBPM, Dr. Maiman is responsible for developing multidisciplinary public health genetics research initiatives to assist in the translation of newborn screening advancements and technologies with emphasis on the social and health effects on children and their families, and development of educational public health programs to aid practitioners in implementation of newborn screening innovations.
