Stream Restoration Design Handbook Released

art 654 (Chapter 14) Stream Restoration Design of the National Engineering Handbook

Over 200 practitioners from government, private, and academic fields participated in the development of Part 654 (Chapter 14) Stream Restoration Design of the National Engineering Handbook (NEH) recently released via the NRCS Directives system.   The new NEH Part 654 focuses on design tools for stream restoration projects.

NEH-653, Stream Corridor Restoration: Principles, Processes, and Practices, released in 1998, provides basic principles about stream restoration and how to plan stream restoration projects.  NEH-654 complements NEH 653 by providing assessment and design tools that are applicable to any stream restoration work, whether it primarily follows a natural stream restoration or is strictly a structural project.

LANDCARE will be mailing a copy of Part 654 (Chapter 14) Stream Restoration Design on CD to each State conservation engineer and each State resource conservationist.  Additional copies are available free of charge on CD from LANDCARE or by calling 1-888-LANDCARE (e-mail: landcare@usda.gov).  The handbook can also be downloaded from the NRCS Directives Website.
