NRCS district conservationist Murray Fulton was on hand to answer questions from NRCS Earth Team Volunteers, local Girl Scouts, and the Brandon, Mississippi, High School vo-ag class participating in a World Monitoring Month event.  The central Mississippi youngsters assisted residents measuring water quality in urban and agricultural areas.

The two-day monitoring results indicated that in urban areas sediment levels were high in the streams due to construction.  In the agricultural areas, the streams were cleaner largely due to NRCS Best Management Practices. The Central Mississippi RC&D Council, the Hinds County Soil and Water Conservation District, and other local groups helped coordinate the event.
